Thanks for Keeping the Fog Out
Just for fun…
The following excerpted letters appeared in the August and September 1952 issues of the Maine Coast Fisherman respectively:
Thanks for Keeping the Fog Out
Quoddy Head Light, Lubec – “A note from good old Quoddy Light by the dam site,” says Hoyt Cheney, “the most eastern point in our good old USA. We want to thank the keepers of Southwest Head and Machias Seal Island for not letting too much fog in by them this year so far. It is a help to our sardine boatmen. They are moving very much now, so keep a good watch and keep it out, boys.”
Keeper Benson’s (Southwest Head Light on Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada) response to Keeper Cheney at West Quoddy Head Light is below…
Will let a Little Fog Through
Southwest Head Light, Grand Manan – “It has been quite some time since I have written,” says Harvey Benson. “I guess there is really no excuse for me, but we have been quite busy since April.
“We generally have quite a bit of fog during August. I see where Quoddy Head thinks we are holding it back down in this part of the bay. We will let a little slip by once in a while so he won’t get too rusty.”
